Kate Forsyth is a wonderful speaker and engaging storyteller. I have heard her speak quite a few times and on each occasion she tells her story afresh. She is never boring. This time we were treated to a slideshow in the National Library theatre and at one point Kate read out a diary entry from when she was 18. We all laughed, perhaps remembering our own passionate but put-upon moments at that age. I also found out that we both shared a tendency in our latter teenage years to drift about in Pre-Raphaelite garb, just like some of the characters in her latest novel, Beauty In Thorns.
