Aine revisited - Part II

It has been over 3 weeks since I shut the door on kiln 24 with about 26kg of glass cooking and cooling during that time. Despite some years of experience it is with a mixture of trepidation and hope that I unscrew the door. I'm pretty happy with how it looks in the after photo, now let's open up the mould.

Once I've moved the fired piece down to the 'mould room' it's time to pick up my tools, don my leather gloves and goggles (sorry safety glasses) and turn on the extraction unit. I carefully prise away the dried investment material to reveal the cast glass within.

I'm happy that the colour has remained quite stable during the firing and that all the details have been filled. There are some areas that will need grinding and polishing but that is a whole other stage to consider.
