Yep, December tends to be a good reading week. May your holiday reading be plentiful.
My reading plans are to read Sheri S Tepper's The True Game series in chronological not publishing order. I love the Mavin Manyshaped books (3), but less so the 3 Peter books and the 3 Jinian stories but they do fill out the world-building and overall plot.
I have been meaning to read more of T. Kingfisher and raced through A Sorceress Comes to Call and Nettle & Bone. The plot in ASCTC moves along very quickly and has recognisable elements from the Fairy Tale the Goose girl. A satisfying read with multiple female POVs of different ages. NAB weaves in themes from the Seven Swans fairy tale, and folk song Twa Sisters/The Bonny Swans. I enjoyed the visit to the Goblin Market (who doesn't as long as someone else is getting you out!). The dust-wife and fairy godmother characters were great. I loved the bits of magic: the nettle cloak, bone-dog, godmotherly curses, demon chickens, and the thief wheel to name a few.
I'll have to review other books in January as I haven't quite got the right words for Blood over Bright Haven by M.L Wang yet.
